Jim Vogt, President & CEOWith major security infringements and data breaches making international headlines, today’s organizations need to integrate data security technologies into their solutions to reduce sophisticated and persistent threats, fraud, and insider attacks. Additionally, the increased complexity of big data demands new and improved solutions for processing, storing, and securing data. Delivering robust and proven security capabilities, Zettaset provides data protection solutions that are uniquely designed and optimized for big data environments. The firm’s advanced big data security solutions are simple to deploy, fit easily into any IT security and policy frameworks, and are compatible with Hadoop distributions, NoSQL, and relational databases.
Being proactive against data breaches and cyber attacks are the key fundamentals to preventing negative impacts on revenue and reputation. Financial services, healthcare, and federal government organizations are typically the first ones to encounter these hacks as they deal with critical, sensitive data on a daily basis. Many of them must follow stringent compliance regulations to maintain legally mandated protection for data.
Encryption That is Optimized for Big Data: On Premises and in the Cloud
The Zettaset Big Data Encryption Suite has been designed from the ground up for optimal performance and scalability in distributed Big Data systems like Hadoop and other NoSQL, as well as the latest generation of Relational databases. The Zettaset solution, which can be applied in the cloud as well as on-premises, delivers data-centric security utilizing advanced policy-based encryption to ensure the highest levels of protection of critical data.
The Zettaset Big Data Encryption Suite provides a proven defense in regulated industries such as healthcare, financial services, and retail from the accelerating frequency and scope of data breaches. When integrated into a strategic IT security initiative, the Big Data Encryption Suite can help bring Hadoop, NoSQL and Relational big data stores into compliance with corporate and regulatory data protection initiatives including HIPAA, HITECH, and PCI.
Jim Vogt, Zettaset CEO, relates, “Our unique encryption process is transparent to the end user and has negligible impact on database performance, making it ideal for enterprise environments where scalability and system efficiency are paramount.” Customers can choose from two different encryption products in the Zettaset Big Data Encryption Suite: BDEncrypt, and BDEncrypt Plus.
Our unique, high-performance encryption process is transparent to the end user and has negligible impact on database performance, making it ideal for enterprise environments where scalability and system efficiency are paramount
Zettaset BDEncrypt is a high-performance, partition-level encryption solution which is ideal for bulk encryption of stored data. Easily deployed via Ambari or CLI, it utilizes Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) 256-bit encryption, the highest level attainable. AES has been adopted by the U.S. government and is now used worldwide. BDEncrypt can be applied to both data-at-rest and data-in-motion, while still achieving extremely high levels of performance in scale-out data environments.
Zettaset BDEncrypt Plus is designed for selective data encryption down to the file-level. File-based encryption protects data on nodes against attackers reading files, but still has exposure to write attacks on those same encrypted files (cipher text). If an attacker can write to the cipher text, he can either (1) erase data without detection or (2) mount a chosen cipher text attack to obtain the data key. Data-in-motion is an even easier target: An attacker can simply modify cipher text by performing a man-in-the-middle attack.
BDEncrypt Plus provides additional protection against this threat in two unique ways: (a) Authenticated encryption and protection for cypher text using associated data (AEAD), and (b) Cryptographic protection for access control lists (ACLs).
“Zettaset is focused on delivering enterprise-hardened software solutions that not only provide data protection, but also maintain the integrity of secured data,” says Vogt. On a progressive note, “We are continuing to extend our addressable market beyond Hadoop and into other NoSQL and Relational database environments wherever there is a requirement for data security that performs well in petabyte-scale on-premises or cloud-based data stores,” concludes Vogt.
