Insider Attacks are Now More Frequent: Research

MEDFORD, NJ: Watchful Software, a provider of data-centric information security releases the Insider Threat Spotlight Report which focuses on major threats, risk vectors and potential lack of preparedness for data breaches.

The Insider Threat Spotlight Report reveals that 62 percent of security professionals say that insider threats have become more frequent in the last year and 59 percent of the respondents point that privileged users such as managers with access to sensitive information pose the biggest insider threat to organizations. Consultants were at 48 percent and regular employees at 46 percent next after managers in posing threat.

The report also divulged that 62 percent of respondents said that insider attacks are far more difficult to detect and prevent than external attacks and less than 50 percent of respondents believed that their organizations have appropriate controls to prevent insider attacks. 38 percent of the respondents estimated data breach remediation costs to reach up to 5 Mn dollars per insider attack, while 64 percent of respondents said that it was difficult to estimate the damage of a successful insider attack.
